Stress-- Silent Killer

Stress has been dubbed the silent killer. Our physiological response to it manifests in our bodies, producing stimulants and other stress hormones, which act as mood altering devices. We become much less conscious of pain, both physical and mental. This can set up a dangerous precedent if we ignore or blot out the clear signs that our bodies typically use as a warnings that we are making ourselves vulnerable to illness or a breakdown. Ignore your heart’s signs or your body’s own cries at your peril.
A common symptom of stress may be lack of respect for healthy feeding and enjoyment of eating. It can bring us to eat more junk food in a wish to console ourselves or feel the old buzz. This adds on yet more stimulants already abundant in stress along with other stress hormones making us tired, irritable and angry. Our digestive functions are now out of whack. We make poor choices about eating when we’re stressed either through time constraints or a desire for comfort food. According to your disposition this can cause a loss of appetite, depleting your body of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, leading to weight loss and poor health, or weight gain, through the junk food you may eat in a rush, adding to digestive disorders and other weight-related problems. Poor nutrition will further weaken your resistance to illness and allow other symptoms of stress to develop. This is just one of the downward spirals of stress.

It’s not just the person who seems most likely to drop dead from a stroke or a heart attack that’s at risk Stress hormones can contribute to ulcers and other severe gastro-intestinal problems, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease and much, much more. These chemicals are also causal factors in a host of psychological problems such as depression and anxiety. It can also weaken the immune system, which makes you more susceptible to illness and affects the body’s ability to heal.
